- How do I get to Algebra Nation? Log in to Classlink and click on the Algebra Nation link. You will have to download the Math Nation app if you are accessing it from a phone or tablet. You may have to enter your student number and password. If you are asked for an email address, use your student number followed by @students.santarosa.k12.fl.us.
- What if I'm not doing as well as I want to be doing? If you aren't watching the Algebra Nation videos with the assigned HW pages, watch them. If you are, try choosing a different expert. Make sure you are writing down everything the expert writes down. Be prepared to ask questions and apply the information covered in the videos. They prepare you for class activities that will reinforce the topics.
- What if I need more help? Write down specific questions to bring to class. You can also take questions with you to the Math Lab Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-9 in room 308. You can also come to my room between 9-9:15 with specific questions by appointment so I can give you a pass to get in early.
- What if I have questions when I'm at home? Ask on the Algebra Nation Wall or in Teams. Students from across the state of Florida can answer questions on the Algebra Nation Wall. Teams is in Office 365 on Classlink and all of your classmates and I can see and answer your question as long as you include @bane... in your post. You can also ask about technical difficulties that may arise. To get into Teams, go to Classlink, click on Office 365 and click on the purple Teams icon. I recommend you download the app!
- Why do you teach this way? Taking notes at home allows us to do more collaborative, creative, critical thinking activities in class when the teacher and classmates are there to support each other. It may take some getting used to, but it's highly effective and worthwhile! Students are more engaged for more of the class period than if I was to go over homework and lecture the entire period. Students can choose the Algebra Nation expert that suits their needs. Differentiating guided notes at home means more students hear the information at the pace they need.
- Do you give extra credit? Students can earn extra points on every test by clearly explaining mistakes and redoing missed problems to prove better understanding for 20 minutes the day the tests are returned. Occasionally, projects are given with extra credit opportunities.
- Do you drop any grades? I drop one HW assignment and one quiz at the end of each 9 weeks. Quizzes are unannounced and students can sometimes use their folders and books, so keeping up to date with class work and HW is very helpful!
- What if I cannot watch the videos at home? You can use the school library computers and/or school WiFi on your phone before or after school. If you cannot come early or stay late, please copy the guided notes from a classmate and ask questions about the content. This should be a once in a while backup plan, not the usual procedure for getting the information. If you have consistent internet problems, please let me know ASAP. If you have technical difficulties one night, you will have an extra day to complete and show me the HW to replace the Z with a 100.
